Mark Dobbin ACS
Mark Dobbin is an award-winning Director of Photography with over 30 years of experience filming across the globe. Now based in Tasmania, his career has taken him to the United Kingdom, China, and Thailand, where he honed his craft across various television genres. While his expertise spans many formats, he truly excels in long-form documentaries.
Mark has earned widespread recognition for his work in fast-paced breaking news, as well as his skill as an editor. His career highlights include filming major global events such as the Chengdu Earthquake, the Japanese Tsunami, and the 2008 Obama Presidential Election. In recent years, his assignments have taken him to extraordinary locations, including Easter Island, Madagascar, East Timor, Mongolia, Japan, and North Korea. Equipped with his own camera kit and extensive technical knowledge, he consistently delivers exceptional visual storytelling.
His accolades include the Quill Award for Best Camerawork (2004) and the Golden Tripod for cinematography at the Australian Cinematographers Society (ACS) Awards in 2013 for 101 East: Battling the Yakuza. In 2014, he was further honored with his ACS letters. Mark was also the lead Director of Photography for the Emmy Award-winning documentary Hope Frozen.
He was also part of the award-winning documentary series Miriam Margolyes: Almost Australian, bringing his signature cinematic style to this critically acclaimed production.
More recently, he has expanded into feature films, working as a camera operator on The Kiss of The Con Queen and Take My Hand. His passion for storytelling, coupled with his vast international experience, makes him a sought-after cinematographer in both documentary and narrative filmmaking.
